St David's shrine

St David's Well

Ballynaslaney

I had spent the christmas period in Wexford so I decided to take the opportunity to visit St David's well at Ballynaslaney. There is a shrine dedicated to the welsh saint who has strong associations with St Aedan of Ferns and Clone. The main well is situated to the left of the shrine, where a series of steps take you down to the water. To the right of the shrine is a small well house, pictured below. Inside is a smaller well, the water is piped down from the main well into the well house. There is a large collection of statues, medals, beads and many mass cards stored in the well house. I was amazed at the number of visitor's to the well during the winter period.

Situated: From Oylgate on the N11 head south. Take the first right for Ballynaslaney (sign-posted). Keep left at the fork. The well is located 850 metres down here.
